The original plan was to meet Martin at Minehead at about 10am, so I
arrived there and then had a phone call from Martin who was running late
and still on the M5... There wasn't much wind at Minehead, and what there
was had some Southerly in it, so there was a change of plan as we all
headed to Saunton.
I've always liked Exmoor, so it wasn't too bad driving up over Porlock Hill
through Lynmouth and up alongside the in flood and impressive looking River
Lyn and then on across Exmoor to Saunton. I arrived at pretty much the same
time as the others, but there wasn't quite enough wind, so we had a coffee
and a chat, before eventually rigging 6m(ish) sails and heading out. By now
the wind had picked up a little and there was about 10 people out
kite-surfing, some of whom were pretty good and pulling off big back loops,
spins , board-offs and dead-men. There wasn't quite enough wind for us, so
we bobbled about looking for gusts, then pumped like mad for brief moments
on the plane.... Not good.
Luckily it did pick up a little later and Martin and I had half an hour
nicely powered up, so did eventually manage a few decent runs along with
some jumps and gybes.
